What is a 'Short Stay Trip'?
These visits involve a school visiting Newark for a short time only and are generally in the week. The group meet each morning in Newark and will spend the day visiting the local sights. In the evening they will return to their host family. We require host families to give the children accommodation, meals and transport. We are looking for families who can host 2 or 3 students for the duration of each stay.
What do I need to do?
Provide a friendly, welcoming home which the student can relax in. It works really well if you have your own children who can interact with these children or are a couple who enjoy the company of children. The only definite commitments are: -
a) Separate bed for each student (These don't have to be in separate bedrooms)
b) Breakfast
c) Packed lunch
d) Evening Meal
e) Transport to/from the bus station in Newark each day.
What do the students do each day?
The emphasis on these trips is more cultural than the one-to-one's. The schools come to England to experience a little of the culture as well as give the children exposure to the English language. The daily schedules are as follows: -
May Group
Day 1 - Group arrives in Newark, and takes a short walk around the town before meeting the host families at approximately 18:30.
Day 2 - Group assembles at the Potterdyke Car Park at 8.00am (You provide transport to this location). The group then visits the Caves of Nottingham & Tales of Robin Hood in the morning, before going to Sherwood Forest & Perlethorpe Church in the afternoon.
Day 3 - Group assembles at the Potterdyke Car Park at 8.00am (You provide transport to this location). The group is visiting Lincoln, taking a trip on the Brayford Belle in the morning beofore visiting the Castle & Cathedral in the afternoon.
Day 4 - Group assembles at the Potterdyke Car Park at 8.00am. Today the group will spend time in Newark, before visiting the Castle for a picnic. In the afternoon the group will board their coach to return to France.
